In May 2008 the governor of Tomskaya oblast Viktor Kress took part in the program of the Russian Federation president’s official visit to China, where was signed a memorandum with the Sibey company on an integrated timber enterprise creation on the territory of Tomskaya oblast.
From this point on the oblast began to cooperate with Shandun province. According to the memorandum, the Henda-Siberia company in Tomsk and the Sibey company in China intend to implement in 2008-2016 an investment project for the construction of a timber processing complex with felling volume and integrated forest utilization of 4500 thousand cubic meters on the territory of Tomskaya oblast .
Last August the plywood production’s first phase construction started with an annual output of 100 thousand cubic meters. There was formed a group of Chinese companies which had confirmed their participation in a $400 million project investment to create deep mechanical wood processing facilities near the city of Asino.
The Chinese delegation will examine the construction site in Asino. And Viktor Kress will offer new possibilities for investments to the region. Furthermore, the Chinese partners will be given a presentation of the oblast’s investment projects in a Tomsk Business Development Agency.
Also a delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation led by the Deputy Minister Ivan Materov will take part in the working group meeting.
