Director of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service (FDCS) Viktor Ivanov in the course of the meeting with media representatives declared that in anti-drug cooperation between Russia and China “there are neither barriers nor difficulties.”

Answering questions of the agency’s correspondent, Ivanov noted that a number of documents was signed between Russia and China on cooperation expansion in counternarcotic actions and a mechanism of annual ministerial meetings regarding anti-narcotic operations was created. According to the Director of FDCS of Russia, during his February meeting in Shanghai with Minister of Public Security of P.R.C. Meng Jianzhu, the parties exchanged opinions on issues relating to joint fight against narco-crime. Viktor Ivanov also took part in the international conference devoted to centenary of the “Shanghai opium commission.”

Today Russian and Chinese counter-narcotics agencies maintain good relations, actively exchange information, as well as extend their cross-border cooperation. Besides, Russia and China closely cooperate with other SCO members in this sphere. At present a strategic document on anti-narcotic cooperation within the framework of SCO is being worked out.

Having emphasized the difficult world narco-situation, the Director of FDCS of Russia expressed his hope that UN will play a large part in improvement of the mechanism for enhancing international antidrug cooperation.
