The Ministry of culture and information of Kirghizia is working out its position and proposals regarding the establishment within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization a contest like the Eurovision song contest, the press service of the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Kirghizia reported.
According to the press service, the Minister Sultan Raev received a letter from the Kyrgyz national coordinator for SCO Tolondu Makeev, where he informs the minister of Russia’s proposal to establish within SCO an International song contest like the Eurovision song contest existing for many years in Europe and enjoying great popularity among the European countries audience." The letter says that live broadcast of final competitive concerts by central TV channels, a possibility of the SCO member states audience of many millions to decide the winner by direct voting and thereby – a country where the next contest will be held – all that must contribute the strengthening and enrichment of cultural ties and exchanges, to work for SCO’s image. A need for such a project on the Eurasia space, according to the Russian party, is obvious, so long as young gifted singers of the most countries of the region have not been properly represented to date at the known international song contests. This idea was already discussed at the meeting of Ministers of Cultural Affairs of the SCO countries in Kazan in April 2009 and in whole was supported. On the Russian side it was the First Channel that expressed interest in participation in this project – the Eurovision song contest organizer this May in Moscow. |
