Russia and China to Hold the Peaceful Mission 2009 Anti-Terrorism Exercises |

Russia and China will practice struggle against armed extremists in the course of the Peaceful Mission 2009 Anti-Terrorism Exercises. The Exercises will be held on July 22-26, in Khabarovsk and the Shanghai Military District near the city of Baicheng.
According to the legend, a big terrorist group occupies an administrative object in China and oppresses the local population. The Russian and Chinese military men, after unsuccessful political talks, decide to use force. 1.5 thousand soldiers and officers, 160 units of surface equipment, 20 aircrafts and helicopters from each country will take part in the Peaceful Mission. Joint exercises plan was approved in whole as far back as last February. On the Russian part a battalion group of Land forces and air assault company of Airborne Forces troupes will take part in the Peaceful Mission. Chiefs of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and the Chinese People's Liberation Army are expected to supervise the exercises. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states representatives are invited for the maneuvers. In 2007, on the Russian Chebarkul firing ground, the Exercises under similar name “Peaceful Mission 2007” took place under the aegis of SCO. Besides Russia and China, also Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, and Tajikistan participated in them, as well as Uzbekistan, represented by a group of officers. About 5 thousand soldiers and officers, 1 thousand units of warlike and special equipment of all the countries except Uzbekistan were involved, as well as 70 helicopters and aircrafts of Russia and China. |
