Moscow-Yekaterinburg-Astana-Beijing video space bridge “The Shanghai Discourse: SCO in the Modern Civilization” took place. On the threshold of the SCO summit that will be held in Yekaterinburg on June 15-16, the participants have discussed the development of cooperation between the countries within the framework of the organization.
Among the experts assembled in Yekaterinburg, there were State Duma deputies, authorities representatives, political scientists, scientists and businessmen. First Deputy Head of the Law Monitoring Center of the Federation Council, President of the Strategy Center Gennady Burbulis, President of the Politika Foundation Viacheslav Nikonov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma international affairs committee Alexander Kozlovsky are among them. The SCO Business Council experts Alexander Starunsky and Vladimir Remyga took part in the roundtable work.
Opening the roundtable, the Head of Administration of Governor of the Sverdlovskaya oblast Alexander Levin noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization significance in the modern world is very big. “In the SCO space nearly two thirds of the Earth's population lives,” he said. “The Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s role is very important both in the economic and political field. During the summit, decisions of fundamental geopolitical importance for the whole modern world will be made,” Alexander Levin noted.
According to Alexander Kozlovsky, economic questions must become priority in the SCO activity. “The emphasis must be laid on the economic cooperation. And the question must be not only about private capital, but also about state-financed projects.” he said.
The fact that the SCO summit will be held in the industrial capital of Russia, underlines the prime importance of economic questions. This opinion was expressed by the SCO Business Council expert Vladimir Remyga.
He reminded to the present that in the financial sphere several areas of cooperation have been outlined: transition to national currencies in mutual settlements; inclusion into the dialogue of new economic segments, such as insurance and equity markets; implementation of the investment cooperation program.
Remyga called Russia’s willingness to create an international financial center one of the first steps towards it. The same tasks were set, according to him, by China and Kazakhstan.
The SCO Business Council expert Alexander Starunsky told about priority directions of integration processes in the SCO area, made a point of the necessity for the SOC institutions work improvement, closer cooperation within the organization. He called the roundtable participants for the quest for economic cooperation and told of the latest initiatives of the SCO Business Council in this field. Particularly, at the present time in Moscow the project of creation of a Center of the SCO socio-economic and humanitarian cooperation is being implemented, that will unite all the SCO structures acting in the territory of Russia.
